A commodity is an object of ideology. It's presence reflects a transcendence. New York is a city of the past. An old Dutch trading post whose inhabitants were bound by walls. The city has been bought and sold many times. The tenement buildings are a facade. Souvenir t-shirts, modern art, street vendors, terror threat warnings are our currency.
